I really liked the example of the concept of friend in the chapter 4 and how people can refer to everyone as a friend without actually objectively defining what it is. I am really interested how Rand would actually define this. If you know that she has writing in this topic, I would appreciate the help to find it. If no, I would like to hear opinions about this, cause I am almost certain that she would have integrated the concept of selfishness and gaining something in return into this. What do you think?

Yes you are right that she definitely tied the concept of “friendship” and other related concepts referring to valued human relationships to selfishness. A good example is from the “Virtue of Selfishness” where she says “Love, friendship, respect, admiration are the emotional response of one man to the virtues of another, the spiritual ‘payment’ given in exchange for the personal, selfish pleasure which one man derives from the virtues of another man’s character.”

Hey Hripsime, are you familiar with the Ayn Rand Lexicon? You can type in a subject and find passages where Rand discussed almost any topic related to philosophy: http://aynrandlexicon.com/lexicon/love.html
