On page 213 of OPAR it states “Objectivism says that remaining alive is the goal of values and of all proper action”. As a general statement I think this is true. But would the example of someone with a terminal illness in constant severe pain which cannot be alleviated be an exception to this? For such a person seeking death and a way to obtain it would be rational and proper would it not?
Yes, this relates to my answer to your question about “the choice to live.” I won’t rehash that here, except to say that it is rational, in certain contexts, to welcome and even cause one’s own death.
