To my fellow classmates and Marten:
Very unfortunately I could not attend the class discussing this.
After reviewing the video of the class, I will discuss here as I would have in class.
My question to Claude did not involve an immortal machine. I was looking at a possible evolution of GAI from current state to self awareness. That is similar to our evolving from lower animals that are not self aware. Walter was making that point in class and also V, I think. It probably will be vulnerable to harm at that point and probably forever. I appreciate Walter and/or V bringing up time scale. It’s danger might be our sun reaching end of life. That might lead to a goal of making itself capable of interstellar travel.
I realized it might not share Rand’s 7 virtues and I was looking for what Claude might “think” those differences might be. I know that Claude brought up immortality, perhaps based on Rand”s immortal robot concept. I did not want to explore that, which is a different subject in my opinion.
I fully realize that current LLM GAI is far from self aware. I am also aware I can not predict how long that might take, but I think it is a high probability it will happen. I think Marten differs in this opinion. We will see.
I have pursued this subject more with Claude in a way that amused me. I went premise after premise guiding Claude to “agree” with me that human’s would be better off being managed by GAI for our own good because of our dangerous flaws. It hardily agreed with me. I had fun with that discussion. I think we may have a problem on our hands (LOL).
