Let’s suppose that a man whom we’ll call Mr. Savior forces you into a cage he built and then says exasperatedly, “Why did you have to go and get yourself locked in there?”
He sighs and continues: “Hey—don’t look glum. I’ll save you from getting burned by this lighter if you tell me that you believe I’m a good guy and that you’ll hang out with me for the rest of your life.”
Is Mr. Savior using the concept “save” properly? Obviously not. But why not?
